Rene Marie RussoΒ (born February 17, 1954)Β is an American actress and former model. She began her career as a fashion model in the 1970s, appearing on magazine covers such asΒ VogueΒ andΒ Cosmopolitan. She made her film debut in the 1989 comedyΒ Major League, and rose to international prominence in a number of thrillers and action films throughout the 1990s, including Lethal Weapon 3Β (1992),Β In the Line of Fire (1993), Outbreak (1995), Get Shorty (1995),Β RansomΒ (1996),Β Lethal Weapon 4Β (1998), andΒ The Thomas Crown AffairΒ (1999). After headlining the family comedyΒ Yours, Mine & OursΒ (2005), Russo took a five-year break from acting. She returned to the screen asΒ Frigga, the mother of the titular hero, in the superhero filmΒ ThorΒ (2011), a role she reprised inΒ Thor: The Dark World (2013) andΒ Avengers: EndgameΒ (2019). In 2014, Russo starred in the acclaimed crime thrillerΒ Nightcrawler, for which she won theΒ Saturn Award for Best Supporting ActressΒ and was nominated for theΒ BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
