Elizabeth Jean SpriggsΒ -Manson (nΓ©e Williams) was an English character actress. Her roles with theΒ Royal Shakespeare CompanyΒ included Nurse inΒ Romeo and Juliet, Gertrude inΒ HamletΒ andΒ BeatriceΒ inΒ Much Ado About Nothing. In 1978, she won theΒ Olivier AwardΒ forΒ Best Supporting ActressΒ forΒ Arnold Wesker'sΒ Love Letters on Blue Paper. Her best known role in film was as Mrs. Jennings in Sense and Sensibility (1995), for which she received aΒ BAFTAΒ nomination forΒ Best Supporting Actress.
