Carlin GlynnΒ (February 19, 1940 - July 13, 2023) was an American singer and Tony Award-winning actress.Β She was married to writer/director/actor Peter Masterson in 1960 until his death in 2018. They had 3 children: actress Mary Stuart Masterson, cinematographer Peter Masterson Jr., and former actress Alexandra 'Lexie' Masterson. She wa best known for her roles as Mae Barber inΒ Three Days of the CondorΒ (1975), Brenda Baker - mother toΒ Molly Ringwald's character inΒ Sixteen CandlesΒ (1984), Jessie Mae inΒ The Trip to BountifulΒ (1985) (directed by her husband), First Lady Meg Tresch alongside George C. Scott's character President Samuel Tresch on FOX's TV series Mr. President, and Lady Bird Johnson on the miniseries A Woman Named Jackie. Her other film credits include roles inΒ ResurrectionΒ (1980),Β Continental Divide (1981), The Escape ArtistΒ (1982),Β Gardens of StoneΒ (1987) (where her husband and daughter also had roles),Β Blood RedΒ (1989),Β Night Game (1989), Convicts (1991), Judy BerlinΒ (1999), andΒ Whiskey SchoolΒ (2005). A life member ofΒ The Actors Studio,Β she made her belated butΒ Tony Award-winning BroadwayΒ debut - as 1979'sΒ Outstanding Featured Actress in a MusicalΒ - portraying "Mona Stangley" in the original production ofΒ The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, a musical comedy adapted by her husband and fellow Studio member,Β Peter Masterson, from a non-fiction article published inΒ Playboy, in collaboration with the article's author, Larry L. King, and songwriterΒ Carol Hall, and developed at length in workshop performances at the Studio.
