Burns began her television career in 1995, portraying the supporting characterΒ PegΒ in theΒ Spanish-AmericanΒ teen sitcomΒ Out of the BlueΒ (1995β1996). Burns joined the cast of theΒ actionΒ dramaΒ seriesΒ BaywatchΒ in 1998 and subsequently starred inΒ Baywatch's second rendition,Β Baywatch: Hawaii, until she left the show owing to her first pregnancy.
